St. Francis, Moga

In view of bringing the Capuchin presence into the Malwa region of Punjab, a plot of land was bought in the district of Moga, Punjab. Br. Mathew Joseph, the then Vicar Provincial identified a piece of land near Singhanwala village and the purchase was made on December 27, 2016.

Br. Benoy Joseph, the Provincial and Br. Dominic Thirunilath, the Vicar laid the foundation stone for the project on November 20, 2018. The construction was looked after by Br. Jojo Kurian. The work began in earnest, but had a setback due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

Classes began in 2021 and the first phase of the project was completed in 2023. Inorder to cater to the spiritual needs of the people of the locality it was erected as a parish in 2019.

The friars must be very careful not to accept churches or poor dwellings for themselves, or anything else built for them, unless they are in harmony with the poverty which we have promised in the Rule; and they should occupy these places only as strangers and pilgrims
