Indian Currents

Fr. John Vallamattam of Kothamangalam Diocese, the then Secretary General of CBCI, started the English weekly Indian Currents in 1987 under the auspices of the Catholic Council of India which was a body under the CBCI. Legally Indian Currents was a publication under the Indian Currents Society registered at Kochi, Kerala.

In 1997, after having run it for 10 years, Fr. Vallamattam, in consultation with Br. Dominic Thirunilath, the then Mission Superior of Krist Jyoti Region, handed over the periodical with its assets and liabilities to the Indian Current Publications, a society owned by Krist Jyoti Region.

From May 1, 1997, onwards Indian Currents continued its function from the DDA flats at 375-A, Pocket-2, Mayur Vihar Phase-I, Delhi – 110091. Br. Xavier Vadakkekara, Br. Jacob Kaniyarasseril and Br. Suresh have served in Indian Currents for quite a long time.

TESTAMENT OF ST. FRANCIS

The friars must be very careful not to accept churches or poor dwellings for themselves, or anything else built for them, unless they are in harmony with the poverty which we have promised in the Rule; and they should occupy these places only as strangers and pilgrims
